Texting 'Haiti' to 90999

Is an effective way to help the Haitian people, but according to a Haitian friend of mine, what the Haitians really need are shoes and water, but most importantly shoes. In addition to the Red Cross and Goodwill, I know the YMCA is accepting donations and local supermarkets. I just wish the media would get this out there, instead of constantly saying "text Haiti" or "text Yele", why not mention regularly how it'd be a good idea to donate shoes and water?
